Kristopher Schmetzer recently took part in the selection process for the opportunity to represent the United States in Naples, Italy at the WAKO Youth World Championships to be held in September 2008.  The tryouts were held in Orlando, FL in conjunction with the US Open Karate Tournament the weekend of July 4th – 5th.  He qualified and was selected as a member of the WAKO USA Junior National Team, Kristopher will participate in Musical Weapons, Musical Forms and Semi-Contact fighting events. Kristopher joins his brother Andrew who was selected to the Team in April.

Kristopher is the son of Mark and Vickie Schmetzer who reside in Conyers. He is a 2nd Degree Black Belt under Jim Fuller of Jim Fuller’s U.M.A.S. Karate. WAKO is the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations.  WAKO World Championships are held every two years with youth (18 and under) and adults (19-45) on separate years.  The last junior competition was held in Croatia in 2006.  The USA brought home 3 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals and 5 Bronze Medals.  The last adult World Championship was held in Coimbra, Portugal in 2007. The USA brought home 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals and 2 Bronze Medals.  More information on the team can be found at www.wakousa.org.

Unlike most countries, the WAKO USA Junior National Team is not sponsored.  Therefore, we are asking for your support of Kristopher to represent the USA.  Fund raising efforts are under way and will continue through the summer to help offset the costs of participating at the World Championships.  All donations are tax deductible since WAKO USA is a 501(c)(3) organization with the IRS.
